Day 31: What we’re watching/listening to/playing

We’re a full month into our stay-at-home experience.  Here are some of the things that are bringing continuity and enjoyment to our days.

Doctor Who

We got Aubrey hooked on Doctor Who a few years ago when we showed her some of our favorite episodes.  Just before the local library closed in March I managed to grab seasons 5 through 8.  We have been watching one or two episodes almost every night together.  Right now we are just a couple episodes away from The Day of the Doctor which Aubrey has been looking forward to all month.

Girl In Space

Girl In Space is a podcast that my sister recommended to me recently.  It is created by the very talented Sarah Werner.  Aubrey and I both got hooked on it when I started listening to it a few weeks ago.  It is a fictional radio play from the point of view of a girl who is stranded on a stationary science vessel in space.  It is suspenseful and surprising and smart and empowering.  We just finished season 1 and eagerly await season 2.

The Little Tiny Quiz of the Lockdown

Probably about 95% of the entertainment that Trevor and I consume is straight out of the United Kingdom.  A few years ago we discovered a comedy quiz show on Youtube called The Big Fat Quiz of Everything.  It is hosted by Jimmy Carr who hosts nearly everything funny that happens in England.  For the last three weeks Jimmy has been posting ten pub quiz questions on Youtube every day, followed by the answers a couple hours later.  I have been doing the quiz every day.  Trevor and Aubrey have mostly lost interest but will sometimes chime in with answers if they are within earshot.  Most days I guess about 4 or 5 of the answers correctly.  Two days ago I guessed 8 answers correctly and it was a very good day.

Pandemic

We love board games.  Most weekends Trevor and I have been making time to play a board game together.  And of course the board game we are most interested in playing right now is Pandemic.  In this game we manage a team of professionals who are working together to cure and eliminate four global diseases.  Characters include a dispatcher, researcher, medic, quarantine specialist, and others.  Each time we play represents a new month of the year and new challenges are added.  We have successfully met the objectives (cure three diseases) of January and February with minimal outbreaks.  We will have to let you know how March and April go.  If they are anything like real life March and April of 2020 we might be in for quite a ride.

Hope you all are finding great activities to engage your minds right now!
