The Misrepresentation of Food

ImageImageImage   There’s something odd about the food featured in ads and google image searches.  That’s right- I google food images.  Because to me, an image of a voluptuous, tri-colored tomato is more soothing than a waterfall.  But I’ve found that I’m mostly disappointed in the mass representation of produce.  It doesn’t look like the food that comes in my CSA box, or grows in my garden, or tops my pizza at Dream Acres.  For all the “options” provided at the modern supermarket, there really isn’t a lot of diversity in plant species to choose from.

Which is why this summer I’ve decided to photograph my food.  Mostly for the purpose of creating a screen saver that I actually like looking at.  But also for the cause of promoting a more accurate representation of marginalized vegetables.
