It has been a while since I blogged because I’ve been preoccupied with getting the yarn business up and running. We are proud to announce that we now have yarn up for sale, at http://www.etsy.com/shop/hommespunyarns. I expected to feel jubilant and excited once the yarn was finally up for sale, but I must say I feel very little beyond pure trepidation. We are stepping forward into completely new territory, unsure of all the procedure and protocol we should or would choose to follow. My head is full of questions- Should I be engaging in more ambitious promotion of the product? How long will it take to sell each skein online? Should we turn more or most of our attention towards craft fairs instead?
Nevertheless, I am radiantly proud of the product that Trevor has created, beautifully captured in some photos we took on Friday night, just before loosing our natural light.
We were also surprised to find out that, in spite of government shut down, we were still able to register our business name with the Secretary of State.
Working in the garden has kept all three of us sane through the hot, drooping, middle days of summer. Aubrey has set aside a mud wallow for herself at one end, which is where she engages herself while we’re plucking out weeds. Below she is pictured getting hosed off after one such muddy adventure.
Seeing how well our plants are doing in spite of us gives me hope for the business as well. If nothing else, I hope that this venture gives us the opportunity to learn new things, meet new people, and have new experiences. But when I comes down to it, Trevor would be spinning whether or not it was for the purpose of profit, and selling the yarn gives him a legitimate reason to keep doing what he loves. After seeing him follow his sense of duty and responsibility instead of his passions for so many years, I am relieved to see him more at peace now that he’s found a way to do both.
We also have a small, informative website that features more photos of the yarn and links to related area resources. Check us out at http://hommespunyarns.weebly.com/.
