Votes are in, yarn is getting spun

After much deliberation and helpful input from you good people, we have settled on a HommeSpun Yarns as Trevor’s business name.  Since we’ve returned from Washington he’s been putting in more and more hours at the wheel, producing yarn at the rate of about three skeins every two days.  As the weather has been ever so pleasant, he has positioned himself by the open front door, sometimes even taking the wheel onto the front steps to keep a better eye on Aubrey playing outside.

Sometimes neighborhood kids will wander by and ask him questions, or neighbors will chat across the driveway while trimming their hedges.  Trevor has always been eager to share his passions.

As you can see in the pictures above and below, we have a small pile of goldenrod and grey colored yarns, and some dusty rose is in process.  Next we will need to wash these skeins in order to “set the spin”.  Then they will be ready for sale!  My job in the meantime is registering the business name and setting up an Etsy account, and all the other tiny details that go along with that.  Trevor is responsible for deciding on a price and all the shipping details.

We have started to receive food from our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription and it’s kept us creative and well-nourished.  The peas hardly make it back to the house from our pick-up spot, they’re so sweet and crisp.  Makes us look forward to when we’ll have peas from our own garden.  Which reminds me, National Geographic recently published an article on our seed source, Seed Savers Exchange.  Check it out here: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2011/07/food-ark/siebert-text.

Even though our state is threatening government shut-down, I am reminded that we live in a beautiful place at an exciting time.  Have a happy Independence Day.
