My husband and I are venturing on several new projects this summer. I decided it might be a good idea to blog for at least the next three months, as a way of tracking the progress of these projects.
Today, we planted a garden. The first one we’ve ever planted together. We did our best to follow directions regarding distance plants should be from each other, how much sun they need, what kinds of support they need. However, we did not start any seeds inside, several weeks ago, as is advised on the packages. We planted them all outside. Today. We’ll see if anything comes of them. We planted Amish snap peas, Florence fennel, globe basil, brown berry tomatoes, dwarf blue curled scotch kale, scarlet nantes carrots, jack-o-lantern pumpkins, cherry roma tomatoes, sunflowers, and lavender. That’s right, lavender. In Minnesota.
We bought our seeds from https://www.seedsavers.org/, ” a non-profit organization of gardeners dedicated to saving and sharing heirloom seeds.”

There’s supposed to be a storm tonight. I don’t even know if that’s supposed to be a good or bad thing…will the seeds get the water they need or will they all be washed away? I am so not a plant person. I suppose I should have done more reading or studying in preparation, talked to more people who know a thing or two. But I like the idea of throwing seeds to the ground and trusting fate and the earth to do what they will with them. I also think that watching and caring for this garden in the next few months might just be the best way to learn how to grow things.
